Natural Hair

Natural hair comes in many different textures and densities. The thickness of the hair is determined from a combination of the follicles themselves and how many strands actually emerge from the scalp. The size of the follicles determine if the hair strands are thick or thin. Thicker follicles produce thick hair and finer follicles produce thin hair. But it is not uncommon for someone to have a lot of hair but have multiple thin strands coming from one follicle. Natural hair produces plenty of protective oils, called seburn. In fact, African hair actually produces more oils than Caucasian or Asian hair. However, due to the texture of African hair, the curls, the oil fails to spread evenly along the hair fiber. It tends to build up on the scalp leaving the hair shafts dry if not moisturized manually. IF not moisturized and treated accordingly, the hair is prone to breakage.
